19th Annual Honoring The Class Of 2010 n a ballroom reflecting genuine celebratory and patriotic spirit, some 300 men and women representing the industry’s backbone applauded the achievements of their own at the 19th Annual Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence Awards. The ceremony recognized the peer-chosen “Class of 2010” in America’s Heartland. Held July 23, 2010, at the Midtown Holiday Inn in Grand Island, Neb., the showcase event honored the best of the best in manufacturing innovation, distribution prowess, citizenship and — the pinnacle of individual achievement — the Shooting Industry Award, honoring this year’s outstanding industry leader. Hosted by FMG Publications and held in conjunction with the Eighth Annual Shooting Industry Masters, the Academy recognized achievement in 14 categories, whittled down to 45 final nominees from a field of 114 product and 41 service entries. Emcees Randy Molde, Academy director, and Russ Thurman, Shooting Industry magazine publisher, were joined by 12 members of I the FMG Publications team to present the awards at the gala ceremony. The celebrating concluded as fellow industry competitors gave a rousing standing ovation to F. Hewitt Grant of Ellett Brothers when he was inducted into the Academy’s Hall of Fame as the recipient of the 2010 Shooting Industry Award. Ellett Brothers also received the 2010 Citizenship Award. “My success belongs to and comes from the help of many of you. You don’t know how much I appreciate it. Needless to say, I couldn’t be here today without the great employees that support me every day,” said an emotional Grant in accepting the award. Brownells and Ruger also were multiple award winners, with Brownells garnering the Accessory of the Year and Distributor of the Year awards, and Ruger taking home the Handgun of the Year and Manufacturer of the Year awards.
