Industry news SIG Ships German-Produced Rifles IG SAUER has announced the company has shipped the first of the SIG516 rifles produced by its Eckernförde, Germany, production facility. “Demand from the worldwide market has prompted the need for additional manufacturing capacity,” said Ron Cohen, SIG SAUER president and CEO. “These rifles represent the next chapter in Eckernförde’s rich firearms history.” SIG SAUER also reports that it has been selected as the official duty pistol provider to the ® Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice. SIG’s Model P250 will replace the pistols currently in use by the Netherlands police. Approximately 42,000 PPNL variants will be delivered between 2011 and 2013. This contract marks the first time in 25 years the Netherlands police service has chosen a new sidearm. “After two years of exhaustive testing, we are gratified to see the P250 selected as the weapon of choice.
