Camfour Marks 60 Years C amfour Inc. celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. In 1952, Westfield, Mass., entrepreneur Albert Ferst launched the company, with a focus on the sporting goods market. The company sold everything from boats, snowmobiles and lawnmowers to campers, fishing tackle and firearms. In 1976, Camfour consolidated its operation in Westfield, closing a New York location, and later phased out fishing tackle and non-firearm associated products. This was the beginning of Camfour’s focus on the firearms industry, and a commitment to sell exclusively to independent storefront retailers. In 1985, Camfour introduced its stateof-the-art computer ordering software to dealers. PCGun was developed at the beginning of the technology era for the firearms industry. In 2011, Camfour launched an upgraded version, PCGun Live, which provides dealers enhanced capabilities and up-to-the-second online ordering. In 1998, at the age of 78, Al Ferst retired, selling Camfour to a group of local investors, headed by Peter A. Picknelly. Today, Camfour continues its commitment to the independent shooting sports dealer. The company also is a leader in business technology. Visit www.camfour.com.
