Arms and the woman Continued from page 40 Family Quality Time art of the charm of “Family Traditions” is watching Heath and her husband, G.O., interact with their two children and teach them about hunting. They show firsthand how family traditions can be passed down. Heath stresses that time outdoors with her family is very important. “The kids are always given the option to go with us,” she said. “We enjoy our time in the woods together. There’s lots of time to talk. It’s very important to take kids out and spend quality time with them.” Heath says the key to making a day in the field fun for kids is to take all the necessary safety precautions, and bring plenty of snacks and games for the kids to play while they’re waiting. Heath says her kids love to use binoculars, and they bring slingshots so they can shoot at mud puddles. She also says it’s a great time to go over gun safety and show kids how guns work. “It’s a time to teach them valuable lessons,” Heath said. The emphasis is on enjoying time together, not always the hunt, she added. With family always at the forefront of her mind, Heath says when she walks into a gun store, she likes to see equipment and clothing for the whole family. Heath says Scent-Loc is one of her favorite clothing brands, and she’s hoping they bring out a children’s clothing line in the future. Take a tip from Heath: Make sure merchandise that will outfit an entire family is prominently on display in your store. Busy women will be more likely to frequent your shop if they can gear up the whole family in one place.
