Industry news HK Awarded USMC Contract H eckler & Koch USA has been awarded a contract to produce the U.S. Marine Corps’ new Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR). Designated the M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle, the lightweight, 11.62-lb. weapon, with ancillary equipment, is a variant of the HK416. The M27 IAR replaces the heavier M249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon). “The fielding of the IAR will significantly enhance the ability of our infantrymen to gain and maintain fire superiority, reduce their fighting load and provide them a more ergonomic and accurate weapons system that can keep up during the assault,” said Marine spokesman Maj. Joseph Plenzler. The five-year, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract calls for possible orders up to $23,600,000 for the production, delivery and associated support of the Marines’ Infantry Automatic Rifle program. “This contract award is a direct testament to the superior performance of the HK416. It is an honor for Heckler & Koch to equip the Marines with such a fine rifle,” said Wayne Weber, HK USA president. For more information, visit www.hk-usa.com. HK M27 IAR Ruger Auctions Support USA Shooting Team A series of online auctions of collectible Ruger firearms is benefiting the USA Shooting Team as it trains for the 2012 Olympic Games. The auctions are being hosted on GunBroker.com. Firearms from rare and historic Ruger lines are being auctioned from now until the 2012 NRA Annual Meeting in April. At that time, Ruger will collect all accumulated proceeds and present them to the USA Shooting Team. Funds will help prepare American athletes for international competitions, including the Olympics. “Ruger is a longtime and generous supporter of the USA Shooting Team,” said Buddy DuVall, executive director of the USA Shooting Team Foundation. “The company stepped forward last year with this auction idea, which netted more than $18,000. It was a huge help to our team. We’re very grateful to Ruger for doing it again this year, especially with the Olympics coming up next year, and with our training regimens now moving into high gear.” The auction firearms may be viewed on Ruger’s website, www. ruger.com.
