devices and optics. “The event was a huge success by all measures,” said Tom Taylor, HAVA chairman. “Throughout the day, we continued to hear from veterans, along with industry supporters and officials from military organizations, that the HAVA Family Day was the most well-organized disabled veteran event that the San Antonio military community has seen in years. An agreement has already been reached with the National Shooting Complex to hold a second event in 2009, and we expect tremendous support again, based on the reputa- tion of this year’s event.” Media coverage of the event was substantial, with five outdoor TV shows, two local TV stations and FMG Publications providing coverage. The goal of HAVA is to reconnect wounded men and women from the armed services with their love of the outdoors. HAVA was developed to raise awareness of and further assist disabled veterans with their healing process through guided hunts, shooting competitions and other outdoor activities. “Overall, the industry looked very good in HAVA’s first major event and served this very important cause extremely well. Next up are hunts and shooting events in Montana, North Carolina and Texas, plus major events in 2009,” Taylor said. “With this event, HAVA was successful in representing the outdoor industry’s commitment to disabled veterans.” For those who would like to help HAVA continue its mission, learn more about the organization and how to contribute, or see photos from past events, visit www.honoredveterans.org. 9 SHOT SHOW EXTRA SUPER ISSUE 2009 • www.shootingindustry.com 53
