The culprits are the arms on regular glasses that break the seals on earmuffs, letting in sound and creating pressure points. Luckily, FullPro Protective Gear has a solution to this problem with their SoundVision Eye Protection Kit. SoundVision safety glasses use Velcro-like straps to attach to the outer surface of earmuffs, doing away with pressure points and keeping the earmuffs sealed tight to block out sound. The glasses work with all types of earmuffs and come in a choice of smoke, amber and clear lenses. This kit is one of those simple ideas that will make a big difference in how long your customers can comfortably shoot. Rick Hindman, manager of Center Target Sports in Post Falls, Idaho, said women particularly appreciate this type of earmuff with a Velcro-secured safety glass system. “Women ask for those type of glasses and muffs more than anything else,” Hindman said. “They just seem to like them.” Ear and eye protection are an important staple at Center Target Sports’ busy range and retail outlet. “You make money on accessories because the profit margin on guns is so small,” Hindman said. Center Target Sports stocks a basic line of ear and eye protection, shying away from the more expensive electronic muffs. “Pro Ears are our bestsellers,” said Hindman. “Customers like them because of their quality. They want something that fits and fits nicely.” The Ultra 26 earmuff is a great choice for women as it the thinnest and lightest cup offered by Pro Ears. With so many ear and eye protection choices on the market, it can be difficult to uncover the products women want. When it comes to hearing protection, stock goodquality muffs that have adjustable bands or are junior-sized, as women tend to have smaller heads than men. Consider stocking Full Pro’s SoundVision system as well — women are sure to appreciate the benefits of this rig and not be bothered by its non-traditional appearance. Smaller-framed shooting glasses that don’t swallow a woman’s entire face also are a must for dealers going after the women’s market. If you can equip women with comfortable safety gear, they are sure to spend a lot more time on the range, which translates into a lot more future sales for your store. 9 38 SHOT SHOW EXTRA SUPER ISSUE 2008 • www.shootingindustry.com
