Winchester Wins Contract, Posts Profit Savage Sports Acquires BowTech Savage Sports Corp. has acquired BowTech. “We are impressed with BowTech’s vision and astonishing success in the archery industry and are thrilled to have them as part of the Savage family,” said Ron Coburn, chairman and CEO of Savage Sports. The BowTech family of brands will continue to be promoted and marketed independently as a wholly owned subsidiary of Savage Sports Corp. BowTech’s divisions include BowTech and Diamond Archery, Stryker Crossbows and WaterDog Surface Technologies. BowTech’s headquarters and the existing management team will remain in Eugene, Ore., and continue to guide the business, according to a joint release. “We recognize BowTech has a very successful business plan in place and we intend on keeping the winning formula intact,” Coburn said. “This is an exciting time for BowTech. T he FBI has awarded Winchester Ammunition a contract worth $54 million, the largest single such contract in the history of federal law enforcement, according to company officials. Winchester Ammunition will produce .40 S&W service, training, reduced-lead training and frangible ammunition for the FBI for one base year, with four one-year renewal options. “The innovation behind the enhanced .40 S&W bonded service round is a testament to our Winchester engineers and the quality of our manufacturing. We are extremely proud that our nation’s premier law enforcement agency has selected Winchester ammunition to use in its mission of protecting and defending the United States,” said Dick Hammett, president of Winchester Ammunition. In related news, Olin Corp. has announced that Winchester’s third quarter 2007 sales were $129 million, compared to $104.6 million in the third quarter of 2006. “Winchester’s results reflect both improved pricing and strong volumes,” said Joseph D. Rupp, Olin chairman, president and CEO. According to Olin, the third quarter segment income of $10 million compares favorably to the third quarter of 2006 earnings of $5.9 million. The favorable impact of higher selling prices and higher shipment volumes more than offsets the impact of higher material and manufacturing costs, according to company officials.
