Industrywatch Mossberg Offers Fall Special Continued from page 46 M ossberg continues an aggressive marketing and promotional strategy announced late last year. The company is now offering consumers free binoculars and a gun case in its Fall Special Rifle Promotion. Customers who purchase a new Mossberg or Maverick bolt action or Mossberg lever action will receive 8x30mm waterproof binoculars and a soft camo gun case. Mossberg is supporting the promotion, which runs through Oct. 30, with advertising, plus participating dealers will receive a free counter card and coupon pad. Mossberg dealers should contact their sales rep. Visit www.mossberg.com. Gun Ownership Up, Violent Crime Down he anti-gun movement is having a difficult time dealing with the FBI report that indicates a 5.5-percent decrease in violent crimes in 2010 compared to 2009. This, at a time when gun ownership increased dramatically. For those in the anti-gun industry, that just doesn’t make sense; it doesn’t fit into their position that more guns equal more crime. The report put the Brady Campaign so out of sorts that the organization did not issue a rebuttal, or any statement. And, the Brady Campaign never misses an opportunity to use crime statistics to further its agenda. This time, it appears, they couldn’t twist the data enough to warrant comment. T Team Democrats Defend Top Gun Title Y es, there are Democrats who own firearms and know how to shoot. In May, Team Democrat out-gunned Team Republican at the Congressional Shoot-Out held at the Prince George’s County Trap and Skeet Center in Glenn Dale, Md. A near-record turnout of Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus members, both Democrats and Republicans, put partisan bickering aside to enjoy a friendly competition, shooting rounds of trap, skeet and sporting clays. “I was proud to serve as team captain of the Democratic team in this year’s shoot as the Democrats took home the trophy for the third year in a row,” said Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark). “In all seriousness, this annual event is an important opportunity for members of Congress from both parties to come together and renew their focus on championing the rights of hunters and anglers, and supporting wildlife management and conservation efforts in the U.S. Congress. Our bipartisan camaraderie ensures sportsmen and -women will always have a unified, proactive voice in their government.” The annual Congressional Shoot-Out is organized by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, and presented by Alpha Natural Resources, ATK, NRA and The Outdoor Channel. 9 E-mail the Editor: russ@shootingindustry.com Maximize Your Profits!
