“Coaching is the most rewarding activity I participate in,” Terry said. And some of her enjoyment of coaching comes from introducing new shooters to the sport. “Newcastle’s grade school has an annual camp, and for the first time they had rifle shooting,” Terry said. “They asked me to come up and coach, and I got to coach a lot of kids who would not normally be on the range. I coach mostly rifle, but I also coach muzzleloading, archery, shotgun and pistol.” Even while maintaining a rigorous training and volunteer schedule, Terry maintains a 4.0 grade-point average and plays clarinet in her high-school band. Terry said she plans to use her scholarship money for college, where she hopes to major in wildlife biology at a university with an active shooting team. Shooting also has kept Terry close to her family. “My friends always ask me why I spend so much time with my parents, and I say it’s because they take me to cool shooting events,” Terry said. “Shooting is our family bonding time.” Being a female expert shot has gotten Terry some mixed reactions. “In my competitive shooting, it’s fun to walk in and know the boys see you as this sweet, innocent girl who shouldn’t be able to handle a gun,” Terry said. “After the competition, though, I almost have to close their mouths for them because I turn out to be a sweet, innocent girl who can handle a rifle very well. Sometimes a guy doesn’t think I would be a good coach, but after a little bit of training, he’s glad.” With Millett Precision Hunting Optics and Mounting System Millett windage adjustable scope mount systems are the most significant improvement to the traditional Weaver-Style mount in many years.
