But the icing on the cake was John Connor’s column about the two Gurkha soldiers, “Just Another Day at the Office.” The sheer bravery of these two men was inspirational. But one line in the article was absolute gold. And it seems Connor didn’t even write it! “Fighting the dacoits, he said, was ‘.my duty as a human being.’” Rarely, no, never, have I seen the cure for all the worlds ills more succinctly and truthfully stated. Imagine. How good the world would be if we all did our duty as human beings. Thanks, GUNS Magazine, John Connor, Sergeants Dipprasad Pun and Shresthra. Thanks for a great magazine, great articles and the cure for all the world’s ills. Terry Kelly Falkville, Ala. GUNS Magazine—via one of Duke’s writings. In his otherwise great article titled “VIMBAR/VIMSAR” (October issue), he says, “…the competitor could fire the rifle as many rounds as he/she could get off….” He/she? Were there actually female participants at the VIMBAR match firing high-powered M1 Garands, ’03 Springfields, M1917 Enfields, et al? I find it hard to believe a gal shooter could enjoy the tremendous recoil, muzzleblast, and weight of those heavy-duty, shoulder-bruising battle rifles. Please tell me, in all honesty: were there in fact any lady markspersons at this match, or has GUNS really caved in to PC? PC has no place in a publication whose content has historically been conservative, honest, pro-American, pro-military, pro-Constitution, and pro-Second Amendment. Jim Walker MSgt, USAF, Retired Dayton, Ohio Duke replies, “Sure enough, there were two women shooting the VIMBAR match. Not only the known range part but the long walk-about part. I wouldn’t have written “he/she” if there hadn’t been “shes” in attendance. Good grief, Jim, do you live in a hole? Woman are shooting every kind of match and doing some winning, too, as I point out in my “RifleWOMAN” column in this issue.” The editor adds: Perhaps you’ve never heard of Lyudmila Mykhailivna Pavlichenko, who was a Soviet sniper during World War II and credited with 309 kills with her scoped 7.62x54R Mosin-Nagant.—Jeff John CONTRIBUTING EDITORS FIELD EDITORS John Taffin, Holt Bodinson, Dave Anderson, Clint Smith, Massad Ayoob, Mike “Duke” Venturino Sam Fadala, David Codrea, John Morrison, Glen Zediker, John Sheehan, Jacob Gottfredson, Mike Cumpston, John Barsness, Dave Douglas FMG PUBLICATIONS shootingindustry.com Publisher & Editor: Russ Thurman Advertising: Delano Amaguin, 888.732.6461 email: delano@shootingindustry.com americancopmagazine.com Editor: Suzi Huntington Advertising: Delano Amaguin, 800.426.4470 email: delano@americancopmagazine.com americanhandgunner.com Publisher & Editor: Roy Huntington Advertising: Steve Evatt, 800.533.7988 email: steve@americanhandgunner.com gunsmagazine.com Editor: Jeff John Advertising: Jason Moreau, 866.903.1199 email: Jason@gunsmagazine.com fmgpublications.com Editor: Sammy Reese Advertising: Scott McGregor, 800.553.7780 email: scott@gunsmagazine.com TEL: 888.651.7566, FAX 858.605.0205 tracy@fmgpublications.com NATIONAL ADVERTISING: 12345 World Trade Dr., San Diego, CA 92128, TEL: 866.972.4545, FAX 858.605.0211, anita@shootingindustry.com Gurkha Thanks to John Connor for the excellent article on two Gurkha heroes and one unfortunate Gurkha scapegoat in the October issue. I hope the soldier who got in trouble for doing his duty will be exonerated. The Gurkhas are to be admired for their fighting qualities but also for their character and humility. The Gurkhas have fought for Britain for many years but are just recently being recognized in meaningful ways by the government they served. We should all be grateful that they are on our side in Afghanistan.
