E x p a n d i n g ThE 45 . Springfield’S aving done some testing on the original XDm in 9mm when it was introduced, the first question I asked back then was when is the pistol coming out in .45 caliber? As is required in marketing, they of course can’t play all their cards at once, but after a year or two the XDm in .45 caliber has arrived. The first version — I anticipate there will be other versions but am only guessing, so don’t hound them about it — comes as a 4.5" barrel, reminding me of a sort of Commander52 H m XD sized model. The odd barrels lengths simply drive the holster makers nuts, but Springfield supplies an open-bottomed synthetic holster and double mag pouch (among other goodies, like grip inserts) with the pistol in a very nice case. At least you can get yourself going using those accessories while you holster shop. It’s well documented the XDm is the high-end relative of the successful XD pistol, with the XDm bearing upgrades in finish, nice angles, CNC cuts, grip sizing spacers and that spiffy carrying case, among other things.
